Prior to its commitment, the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), operator of LRT – 1,
was set to break ground late February or early March 2017 for the railway’s line extension from Baclaran to Cavite.
“We are ready to
hold the groundbreaking for the extension in late February or early March,”
recently announced LRMC President Rogelio Singson during a press briefing last
February 6.
LRMC, the consortium of Metro Pacific
Investments Corp.’s Metro Pacific Light Rail Corp., Ayala Corp.’s AC
Infrastructure Holdings Corp., and Macquarie Infrastructure Holdings
(Philippines) PTE Ltd., took over the operation, maintenance, and extension of
the train system after having awarded the P64.9 – billion public – private
partnership (PPP) project last September 2015.
The contract under PPP project targets
to extend to Bacoor, Cavite the LRT – 1, which runs from Roosevelt station in
Quezon City to Baclaran station in Pasay City.
The 11.7 – kilometer extension would
involve putting up new stations across Pasay City, Paranaque City, Las Piñas
City and Cavite. The 8 new stations are Aseana, Manila International Airport,
Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, Dr. Santos, Las Pinas, Zapote and Niyog.
Though LRMC has yet to secure a notice to
proceed with the construction, Singson said that they already have the “permit
to enter” document allowing them to already fence, clear and conduct
engineering works on the site.
Singson did mention that the target
completion of the extension is about 4 years or in 2021.
