Airport, Cavite proposed to be the Philippine Global Gateway
Executive
Director Ferdinand Pecson recently said that government agencies, led by the Department of Transportation
(DOTr), were reviewing new and existing airport proposals with the
main goal to address air congestion in Manila and growing traffic elsewhere.
Prior the
statement, there were emerging airport proposals made by private sectors and
one of these is a consortium of businessmen Wilson Tieng and Henry Sy Sr.
Tieng and Sy –
led All – Asia Resources and Reclamation Corp. (ARRC) has offered the P1.3 – trillion
project dubbed as Philippine Global Gateway (PGG) which involves the
development of an airport, seaport and industrial estate off the coast of
Sangley, Cavite.
ARRC proposed
the reclamation of the three islands to the West of Sangley Point which will be
the site of a two – runway airport and passenger terminal costing P800 billion.
Said airport expects to accommodate 50 million passengers initially and 90
million by 2050.
Aside from this,
they are also constructing a P500 – billion integrated seaport to decongest
Manila Harbor, with land transportation connectivity for private and public
vehicles and rail system, plus a special economic zone which Tieng believed
will provide platform for industries to establish manufacturing and processing
plants that allows operation in a freeport and logistics – friendly zone.
According to him, it will “thereby position the Philippines competitively in
the forthcoming ASEAN integration.”
“It will be
built by our company in partnership with foreign partners without the need for
a single cent from the government. We have already signed all the contracts to
make this happen. We are ready but we need the government to give its nod,”
recently announced ARRC Vice Chairman Edmund Lim.
Transportation
Undersecretary for the aviation sector Roberto Lim, on the other hand, said
that the department has yet to receive the group’s unsolicited proposal.
